G2 Intelligent Polymeric Super Sand

G2 Polymeric Sand Promo

G2 Intelligent Polymeric Sand by Alliance is manufactured by mixing specifically calibrated sand with sophisticated intelligent polymers, which neutralize haze and dust. The end result: a second generation of polymeric sand unlike anything you’ve ever seen before.Alliance G2 Polymeric Sand Logo

  • No Dust
  • Haze Free
  • No Blower Required
  • One Watering

G2 Polymeric Sand simplifies the installation process. Sweeping is all it takes to completely remove the particles from the surface, thus eliminating the additional step of using a blower. And with its uniform composition, water is able to penetrate deeper through the G2 Polymeric Sand. This activates all of the intelligent polymers more evenly to form a stronger, more consistent bond, which only requires only one watering.

How To Use G2 Polymeric Sand in 4 Easy Steps

Step 1: Spread

Spread the G2 polymeric sand into the paver joints with a stiff bristle broom. Make sure the polymeric sand fills the joints completely. G2 Polymeric Sand Application

Tip: DO NOT USE OTHER MATERIAL IN THE JOINTS. Doing so will cause the polymeric sand to fail.

Step 2: Compac

Vibrate the G2 sand into the paver joints using a vibratory plate compactor. A rubber pad is recommended. A roller compactor is best for slab installation. Joints should be filled up to 3mm (1/8 in.) below the edge or chamfer. It is best to compact in several directions to ensure there are no air gaps or voids in the joints. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to ensure joints are filled and consolidated. Narrow joints require more care to completely fill.

Step 3: Clean

Using a stiff-bristle broom, remove any excess G2 sand from paver surfaces. Do the same with a soft-bristle broom. Make sure the finished sand level is at least 1/8 in. (3mm) lower than the chamfer of the pavers.

Tip: Make sure the paver’s side and top surfaces are dry before applying the polymeric sand! The polymeric sand will harden if it is moistened and will adhere to the surface of the paver.

G2 Polymeric SandStep 4: Mist

Once you have removed the polymeric sand from the surface of the pavers you can lightly mist the pavers and joints with a hose. Do this at a height of about 4 feet. Mist the area for about 1 minute starting at the lowest point.

Ice Melt Safe For Pavers & Stone|Mr. Magic Premium Ice Melt

Mr.Magic Premium Ice Melt

Mr. Magic Premium Ice Melt

Our #1 Recommendation for Protecting your Hardscape and Masonry During the Winter Season.

Mr. Magic Premium Ice Melt, Mr. Magic

Your hardscape project is a big investment so it is important to protect it all year round. Failure to do so during the winter season can result in some serious problems. For example,

  • Water can freeze leaving an ice cover on the patio for anyone to slip and fall on.
  •  Freeze and thaw cycles can crack pavers and stone. As the ice and snow melts it becomes salt water that seeps down through tiny crevices in the stones surface and freezes. When the water freezes it expands and forces the crevice to become larger leading to cracks and spalling.
  • Using the wrong blend of ice melt can contain harmful chemical compounds that can deteriorate stone and concrete surfaces.

Our #1 recommendation to preserve the beauty of your pavers and other hardscape/masonry projects is Mr.Magic Premium Ice Melt.

Mr. Magic outperforms other ice melts because it works fast and has a great residual effect, preventing further ice from forming and melting snow as it falls.

Mr. Magic Premium Ice Melt, Mr. Magic
Mr. Magic Premium Ice Melt

Mr. Magic is safe enough for the environment, concrete, brick, natural stone, decking, and pets, but it is effective enough to keep working at temperatures down to -25° Fahrenheit, when other ice melts stop.

How is that so?  Mr. Magic’s  unique formulation consists of a special blend of five biodegradable ingredients; potassium chloride (a fertilizer), calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, and sodium chloride. And it is coated with calcium magnesium acetate. This makes it safer and more effective than conventional rock salts.

The orange coloring of Mr. Magic is an added safety bonus because it allows you to see exactly where its been placed so you don’t over or under apply! And it won’t track into your home.

Concrete Lintels For Sale in Massachusetts

Concrete Lintels

Precast concrete lintels are an excellent way of providing a robust and cost-effective masonry support over door and window openings.

Precast Concrete Lintels for Sale MassachusettsOpenings such as doors and windows are essential components of any project but they can pose as vulnerable points in the building’s exterior. Creating an opening in a building or house requires careful engineering to ensure and maintain structural and thermal stability– this is why lintels are used.

Lintels are excellent because of their rigidity, strength, durability, fire resistance and aesthetics. The most common types of lintels for concrete masonry construction are those manufactured of precast reinforced concrete.

Concrete Lintels

TLC Supply sells lintels in 3′, 4′, 5′, 6′, 7′, 8′, 9′, and 10′. Please visit our website to see even more hardscape and masonry products ranging from premium pavers, bluestone, granite, brick, natural stone, block, sand, detergents, sealers, and much more!

Breathable Siloxane Silane Sealers

Siloxane based masonry and brick sealers that are breathable and penetrate into the substrate have many advantages over other surface sealers comprised of acrylics, silicone and epoxies.

Siloxane Silane Water Repellent SealersAdvantages of Sealers:
A breathable sealer will help protect masonry and hardscape in many ways such as,

  • Resist cracking
  • Resist spalling
  • Reduce staining
  • Protects against UV damage
  • Prevents efflorescence
  • Prevent other damage related to water intrusion

Why choose a silane/siloxane blend?

Siloxane based sealers penetrate deep into the capillaries of concrete pavers and brick. The chemical bond that the siloxane and silane creates inside the microscopic pores acts as a resin. It minimizes the sizes of the capillaries so that it is smaller than a water molecule which provides the repellency.

Siloxane Silane SealersPenetration deep below the surface also means that your pavers will not lose protection if they are in a high traffic area. Sealers that sit on top on the paver can be eroded with heavy foot or vehicular traffic.

Siloxane/silane blends will also be 100% breathable. Concrete can absorb water 2 ways, from the surface and from the soil beneath it. These sealers will allow interior water to evaporate while also keeping surface water from penetrating into the paver. This is very important because sealers that do not allow the paver to breathe will trap moisture which can cause water to freeze and break the paver or brick during the colder months.

TLC Supply offers several professional grade detergents and breathable siloxane/silane sealers from industry leading brands such as Prosoco and Mapei. TLC also carries a wide selection of premium pavers from Techo Bloc, GenestBelgard and Cambridge Pavers. Efflorescence Causes, Removal, and Prevention

What is efflorescence?

EfflorescenceBrickEfflorescence is a crystalline deposit of salts (carbonates, sulfates, chlorides) that may appear as a chalky or white haze on surfaces of masonry, stucco or concrete.

The efflorescence  you are observing in your pavers is Calcium Carbonate, a by-product resulting from an interaction between the cement used to manufacture the paving stone and the natural environment, which includes the ground, the weather, and the atmosphere. In clay brick, the main component that can cause efflorescence is usually Sodium Chloride.

Efflorescence may appear soon after the pavers are installed or it could appear months after depending on several factors such as the climate, humidity, and the ingredients in the materials being used (such as cement, lime, pigments, and aggregate). When the stone is wet, you may notice that the efflorescence has disappeared but this is only due to water turning the efflorescence salts temporarily transparent rather than actually removing them. Once the surface dries, the efflorescence salts will re-appear.

EfflorenecePaversThere is no need to worry because your pavers and brick are not defective. Efflorescence is naturally occurring in cement based products and it will correct itself with time and exposure to the elements.

Why does efflorescence occur?

Concrete products contain cement which produces lime or water soluble calcium oxide. Since pavers have millions of microscopic capillaries, when moisture enters these capillaries it reacts with the calcium oxide and then calcium hydroxide is formed. This rises to the surface and reacts with carbon dioxide in the air and forms a white haze of calcium carbonate. When the moisture on the surface of the paver evaporates it leaves behind the white haze of efflorescence. Still curious about its formation? For a very in depth explanation of efflorescence please click here.

efflorescencediagram
Efflorescence Diagram

How do you eliminate efflorescence?

As mentioned above, efflorescence is a naturally occurring phenomenon and it will correct itself with time and exposure to the natural elements.Since many factors are involved in the formation of efflorescence it is hard to determine when it will stop occurring. But if you would like to alleviate the problem quicker there are detergents available that can help clean and remove efflorescence. Another option to prevent efflorescence is to seal the pavers with a breathable sealant once the efflorescence is cleaned off.

Best Sand for Paver Joints

What is the best sand for paver joints?

This is a great question to ask because you want to maintain the durability and longevity of your newly installed pavers. Polymeric sand is a high-tech mix of graded sand and binders, specially formulated for the filling of narrow or wide joints when installing pavers, slabs or natural stones, or when replacing existing joints. Unlike conventional sand, it locks in place and remains stable. It softens when wet and firms up when dry to better resist soil movements.

PolymericSandFinish

Polymeric sand is the ideal choice for filling in the joint spaces between your pavers because it offers many advantages such as,

#1 Secures Pavers: Polymeric sand keeps your pavers locked in place while also remaining flexible. The composition of polymeric sand includes both a high-tech mixture of graded sands and polymer which allows it to remain solid and bonded but flexible enough to move during freeze/thaw cycles without shifting the pavers out of place.

#2 Weather Resistant: Polymeric sand can withstand high levels of moisture. Other traditional sand used for jointing cannot and will wash right out of the paver joints thus causing the pavers to pull apart. Polymeric sand solves this common issue because it is waterproof and is flexible enough to withstand the expansion and contraction that occurs with the change in seasons. This increases the longevity of your pavers and provides easy maintenance.

#3 Helps Prevent Weeds & Pests: Polymeric sand that is used to fill the joints prevents plant life from growing up in between the stones. In addition it helps prevent weeds from growing that are airborne because the seed cannot root itself into the solid composition of the sand. The sand also prevents ants from coming up between pavers and building nests.

Before you purchase polymeric sand, keep in mind that not all are created equally. We recommend using Alliance® Polymeric Sand for all your hardscape projects because of their meticulous attention to detail and commitment to providing the BEST performing polymeric sand and dust in the industry.

Outdoor Kitchen

Make your outdoor living space the envy of every charcoal chef in the neighborhood!

Stone Veneer Grill Island

Bring together the pleasures of good food, warm weather, and the company of friends and family into your backyard! With an outdoor kitchen or grill island entertaining has never been better; you can prepare meals and be around your guests with minimal time spent running back and forth between the kitchen.

Transform a boring stainless steel grill into a wonderful work of art with natural stone veneer. Stone veneer comes in many different colors and shapes so whether your style is Rustic, Colonial, Contemporary, Modern, Tuscan or Log Cabin, you can create a beautiful outdoor kitchen that is tailored to your unique taste.

Pre-assembled outdoor kitchens and grills are available but our helpful guide will show you how to spice up your outdoor grill by creating a natural stone veneer grill island at a fraction of the cost!

7 Step Guide to Build a Natural Stone Veneer Grill Island

Step 1: Build the Frame

Before you begin your project there are a few things to take into consideration. Think about your entertaining needs and your budget. You will also want to determine the best location for your kitchen, the size requirements, design layout, countertop placement, and the appliances you’ll need. Finally, you must choose the best materials and equipment for accomplishing all your goals.

ConcreteBlockThere are many options you can build an outdoor grill island out of but using concrete block as your frame is affordable, weather and fire resistant, and can be easy to work with. A good height to build your frame up to is 38 inches. This is a comfortable height for elbow resting and food preparation.

Be sure to build on a paved and level surface. Create open boxes in your design to allow for steel doors, drawers, or other storage compartments or to conceal a propane tank for a gas grill.

Step 2: Calculate Stone Veneer

Stone Veneer Grill Island Boston BlendCalculate the square footage of the area. Veneer stone is available in corner pieces and flat pieces. Corners are sold by the linear foot and flats are sold by the square foot.Be sure to subtract the areas that will be used for doors and other storage openings!

Step 3: Stone Veneer Layout

Lay out the stone on a flat surface to create a visual template of how you will place them on the finished grill island. It is helpful to start with the corner pieces and then fill the inside. Pieces may need to be cut to lay flush against the ground. Cut the pieces with a wet saw using a carbide or diamond tip blade. Be sure to wear protective eyewear and follow proper safety measures when cutting stone veneer.

Step 4: Apply Polymer Modified Mortar

Stone Veneer Grill Island GroutWe recommend using Ardex X5 which is a highly versatile, polymer modified mortar with an easy to apply creamy consistency. Ardex X5 will adhere to concrete block without the use of fabric or wire mesh. Using a trowel, apply a 1/4 inch layer of Ardex X5 to the back of the stone. Place the stone onto the wall and wiggle it gently to ensure even coating and a secure bond. If the mortar seeps out  use a damp cloth to wipe it away.

Step 5: Point

Once the stone is in place you can grout the joints using Type S mortar mix. Use a joint slicker to carve out the wet mortar joints. Clean the stone with a damp cloth if any mortar gets on the surface of the stone.

Step 6: Install Fixtures

Stone Veneer Grill Island Door

After the stone has dried (24 hours) install cabinet doors, fixtures, and a counter top. TLC Supply carries an assortment of bluestone, granite, blue mist granite, brownstone, and limestone treads which we can custom fabricate to fit on top of your outdoor grill island.

Step 7: Fire Up & Enjoy!

Brick Walkway|How to Build a Brick Walkway or Patio

Brick walkways are a great way to add aesthetic charm and timeless beauty to your home. Now you can create your own distinctive and classic brick walkway or patio with our helpful guide.

10 Steps to help you build your very own brick walkway or patio!

Brick Walkway

Step 1: Plan

Brick Pattern

Determine what kind of brick you would like to use for your walkway. Some traditional brick used for walls may be too porous and may crack so be sure to select a brick that can withstand foot traffic such as a brick paver.

Sketch out the size, length, and design of your walkway. You may want a straight walkway or one that is serpentine. Calculate your square footage to determine how much material you will need by multiplying length by width. There are many patterns you can create with brick as well.

Step 2: Prepare the Area

Clear any plants, roots, large rocks, or existing material that may interfere with the path or cause unevenness.

Step 3: Mark the Area

StakesOutline your area with chalk line or landscape spray paint. If you are doing a curved design you can use a garden hose to mark the shape you wish to take and trace with chalk or paint.

Tip: Before digging call your local utility company or “Dig Safe” and have them identify any buried gas, water, or electrical lines.

Step 4: Excavate

You want a depth that is at least 4” deep. We recommend going approximately 7”. Also, you may want to slightly slope the walkway to help water drainage. The required slope is 1⁄4 in. per every 4 ft. of run. Another option is to place more sand in the middle of the walk so that water will run off the to the sides. This will be discussed in a later step.

Tip: You can lay boards across the area and use a level to help you determine the slope.

Option: At this point you may want to add Geotextile fabric for added durability and stability.

Step 5: Back Fill

Fill the area with 4” inches of base material such as ¾” dense grade. This will help provide a solid base and aid in proper water percolation into the soil. After filling the area use a tamper to compact the material.

PaverCompacterTip: Fill the area with dense grade in 2” increments and compact with a machine plate compacter. This will ensure that the material is tightly packed. Pour another 2” of grade and repeat the steps until everything is compacted evenly to a depth of about 6”.You can even spray the area with water to help keep the dust down when tampering.

Step 6: Sand

Apply concrete sand over the crushed stone. Lay down two pieces of round level piping and push it a little into the sand. Depending on the width of your walkway you may need to use a longer or shorter pipe. Doing this is going to help ensure your base is level before applying the brick. Now spread more sand to make sure it is flush with the pipe. You can use a 2 x 4 to screed the sand to a smooth surface. If you cut a 1 3⁄4-in.-deep notch at each end of the 2 x 4, you can rest the notches on the edge restraints while you pull the 2 x 4 across the sand. Once the area is leveled, gently remove the pipe and fill the void with sand and smooth the area out. To prevent water build up you may want the center to be slightly pitched or crowned so water runs off the sides. To do this you can add more sand to one side or make the sand higher in the center.

Tip: We recommend concrete sand rather than mason sand because it will provide more stability and assist in water percolation.

Step 7: Lay Bricks

Brick LayingStart laying bricks around the edge of the path and gently pressed them down with a rubber mallet. To better fit pieces you may need to use a wet saw to cut pieces to the desired measurement.

Brick Layers

So far you should have something like this.

Step 8: Edging

BeastPaverEdgingAdd plastic edging to the sides to define the perimeter of the walkway and to hold the pavers in place. Hold the edging in place with spikes. We recommend B.E.A.S.T. Plastic Paver Edging for its strength and flexibility. B.E.A.S.T. edging comes in 8 ft. sections and can be nailed in with 10” or 12” spikes. This edging is also made from recycled material and it allows for the growth of vegetation.

Step 9: Fill Joints

Joint Brick SandWhen you finish laying the brick pour polymeric sand over the top and gently sweep the sand over the whole area to fill the joints. Tamper the top to ensure compaction. Brush away any excess sand and mist the walkway with water to secure the sand and brick. You may need to go back once it is dry and fill the joints with more sand.

Tip: We recommend using polymeric sand over mason sand because it contains binders that help maintain a firm bond between the bricks which in turn helps to secure them in place.

Step 10: Touch Up

Fill any voids around the walkway, covering the exposed webbing of the edge restraint. Tamp the soil down to compact it, then plant grass to fill in the lawn up to the edge of the walk. The roots of the grass will grow through the holes in the edge restraint to further lock it in place. You also can also add cobble stones or paver edging and even plant decorative flowers or shrubs for a finishing touch to your walkway.
